Spring Break in the Windy City
Britney & Friends Take the Kids to Chicago
“It’s not only important for my kids to see the world with me but to understand why we see the world.” -Britney
Every year I take my kids to a different destination for spring break to learn about other cultures, experience new things and make everlasting memories.
This year’s selection was a little different because I let the kids decide!
The assignment was simple. Choose a place in the United States where you would like to visit and tell me why, how much it costs to go there and the things we would do.
They did an amazing job with putting their presentations together and after much deliberation Chicago was the winner!!
Getting to Chicago
Once the destination was set it was time for planning. Southwest offers nonstop flights to the Midway airport which is fantastic with kids because you do not have to worry about layovers. The airline also allows two bags free of charge, so we had plenty of room to pack games and extra things to do around the house.
With three families going, we immediately said it would be best to get a house so all of the kids can be together. We planned a grocery shopping trip for when we arrive and designated nights for each person to cook dinner. We would make breakfast every morning.
The last thing to take care of was securing car rentals. With a jam-packed itinerary, Uber would not work. We needed something that was big enough to fit 9 people and suitcases, but we were unlucky. Two cars were the next best thing.
The Things We Did
Giordan’s Pizza - the best pizza I have ever tasted!!!
Ice Skating in Maggie Daley Park
Visited the Navy Pier and cruised along the Chicago River
Almost escaped from The Great Escape Room
Museum of Science and Industry
Obama’s House
So How Did We Enjoy Chicago??
Overall, we had a really good time on our vacation, but I think it was mostly due to the company we kept. The architecture was the highlight for me - the buildings and story behind them was just fascinating. I was disappointed that we didn’t get to visit the set of Chicago Fire.
Would we go back? Probably not but it is another destination we can cross off our list.
